...a $10,000 2.5 carat diamond putter! I don't care about the price -- I am convinced that it is the only thing that will lower my golf score. :-)
My golfguy keeps telling me that I rush my putts and don't spend enough time lining them up and practicing my swing to get the speed right. Well, imagine lining up my putts with five beautiful perfectly aligned jewels! I would definitely stand over my ball and take lots of time admiring the line of my ball against the sparkles and then practicing my putting stroke again and again to see the diamonds glitter against the afternoon sun. Ah...who cares if it goes in the hole!
Okay, perhaps $10,000 is outside of my golfguy's budget for Valentines, but I can definitely see putting with one of these babies with my birthstone in it (blue topaz) or maybe the stones of my family. All I know is...I want one! And it would appear that a lot of other women feel the same way.
Since Gemspot Golf debuted their custom-made putters at the the PGA Merchandise show in Orlando in January, they've received dozens of orders from men and women alike. Although they have sold a diamond putter to a gentleman for his lady love (lucky girl!!!), the $395 putters are the ones that are the hottest right now, with orders coming in daily.
Men are tending towards the citrine, tiger eye, and paua, while women are buying peridot, blue topaz and pink tourmaline putters for themselves or for girlfriends and family. Personally I'd love to see Paula Creamer play with the pink tourmaline -- I hear it was designed with her in mind.
And the putters are not just for women either. One couple bought anniversary putters as gifts to each other. How cool is that?!
So they're beautiful, that's easy to see, but what about quality? Well, it appears they have that covered too. The specs are all on the web site, but according to Wendy Laub, a top-ranked amateur golfer in her own right, and owner of Gemspot Golf, the proof in is the putting. "I've only had high accolades from the male pros who have putted with it. They expect a gimmicky, novelty item, but when they putt with the Gemspot putter they can feel the quality. In the end that is what will make these putters popular; they are good putters, not just another 'pretty thing.' "
And Wendy hasn't forgot about packaging either. Just as Tiffany gifts are recognized by their baby blue boxes, Gemspot putters come in a cheery wood jewelry box that is almost as beautiful as the putters themselves.
Gemspot is already shipping putter displays to pro shops in Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Orlando and DC. But you can order them directly from Gemspot and even have your putter engraved. What a great corporate gift for employee of the month!
Yes, I think I'm going to have to add a Gemspot putter to my Valentine, birthday, anniversary, Easter and Xmas lists. I figure if my golfguy wants me to line up my putts, he should provide the "jewels" to do it!

And to think my golf guy was balking at the $465 golf shoes. Me thinks it's time to trade him in. ;)
